OPRF Huskies Hockey Club Scholarship

For the past 20 years, senior players for the OPRF Hockey Club have been able to apply for the Bolin-Cooper scholarship to be used for their post high school education. The scholarship was created to honor the memories of Huskies Kevin Bolin and John Cooper. Thirty players were awarded scholarships totaling over $200K over the past 2 decades. The 2021-22 season was the final season of the Bolin-Cooper scholarship but the remaining funds in the scholarship were gifted to the club.

The OPRFHC board elected to use these funds to seed the creation of the OPRF Huskies Hockey Club Scholarship. We look to continue to support this fund through club fundraising efforts and Alumni donations. Similar to the Bolin-Cooper, the new scholarship is open to seniors who played at least two years with the club. Scholarship applicants are evaluated based on their commitment to academics, to our community, the club and to their teammates.

Bolin-Cooper Scholarship (2002-2022)

The OPRF Hockey Club was honored to be associated with the Kevin Bolin/John Cooper Scholarship Fund.

The Bolin-Cooper Scholarship honored the memory of Kevin Bolin, who passed away in 2001 on his way to a hockey tournament. Kevin was a goalie on the OPRF Hockey Club's JV team from 1999 to 2001.

The scholarship also honored the memory of John Cooper, the starting goalie for the 1975 OPRF State Championship team who passed away in 1976 under similar circumstances.

The scholarship provided graduating Huskie Hockey Seniors, who played for at least two seasons, with $3,000/year for post high school education.  The funds were used to assist with tuition, room and board, books or fees for post high school education. Applicants must demonstrate positive qualities/values that have been an asset to the hockey team and possess leadership skills and team commitment.
